GUILTY

Michael White GUILTY of second-degree murder of his pregnant wife, Liana, and GUILTY of causing an indignity to human remains.

Second-degree murder carries a minimum sentence of life in prison with no chance of parole for at least ten years.

The jury has recommended White serve at least 15 years before he's eligible for parole.

The next step for White will be a sentencing hearing, which will include the reading of victim impact statements. That hearing is to be held Wednesday.

MAUREEN KELLY'S (mother of Liana White)REACTION: "Fifteen years seems quite light for a murder. My daughter lost her life and he still has a second chance."

"Ashley (Michael and Lina's then three-year-old daughter)may have witnessed brief glimpses of the murder. She was in the house the night it happened. I believe she saw pieces of it. I don't think she saw everything that happened."

"Ashley (now five) still mentions the events of that night, although her story was ruled inadmissible and the jury never heard it. It's not something she'll talk about or answer questions about. It just comes out. Heartbreaking comments."

"I'm satisfied with the verdict but take no joy in it. I'm sad. I'm sad we're here doing this. I'm sad my daughter is gone and Ashley's mom is gone. Because of (White's) mistake, his life is ruined. Everything about this is sad. I have no feelings left toward White. I hate what he's done. My blood boils. I don't know what closure is."

Kelly has custody of Ashley.

NEIGHBORHOOD REACTION TO THE VERDICT:

NEIGHBOR (who didn't want name printed):
"It’s nice to know that 12 of his peers thought what all of us kind of knew all along and felt all along,it’s closure for the community and that family."

NEIGHBOR (who helped Michael White search for Liana):
"I respect the jury’s verdict, though I didn’t take a position on whether White was a murderer or not. You don’t know what goes on behind closed doors,” said the neighbour. They were good neighbours, quiet, I didn’t hear much from them. From what I’d see in the neighbourhood, he seemed like a half-decent fellow. I hope another family will eventually move into 227 Warwick Crescent.(where White murdered Liana) If a new family wants to live there, after what allegedly happened there."

JEIGHBOR BARB JAMA(lives across the street from the White home, a close friend of Liana White): "The verdict that was reached was the right verdict. With all of the circumstances that were released, too bad it couldn’t have been even harsher. I wish they could have gone for first-degree.”

I have seen your thread regarding "THE VERDICT".It is really a pathetic situation, and maybe we would meet up with such an environment very rarely within the world. It becomes hard to believe on these words, that "I'm satisfied with the verdict but take no joy in it. I'm sad. I'm sad we're here doing this. I'm sad my daughter is gone and Ashley's mom is gone. Because of (White's) mistake, his life is ruined. Everything about this is sad. I have no feelings left toward White. I hate what he's done". Here i tell you that on one hand there is a lot less stigma attached to a white man spending an afternoon with a Black Escort, or a Christian marrying a Muslim in the 21st century.
