CHANGE OF VENUE

Superior Court Judge Timothy Kincaid granted a change of venue.
Kincaid said he would rule on a new location for the trial at a hearing Sept. 12, 2011.

2011 - September 14 -  Court Hearing POSTPONED.
 
CHARLOTTE OBSERVER

"The judge hearing the murder case against Elisa Baker postponed the case
until Thursday to allow victim Zahra Baker's mother and other family members
a chance to attend hearing.

Defense attorney Scott Reilly told the Observer that the judge wants to give the

dead child's family the chance to get here from Australia. "It has been continued

to allow more time for the victim's family ... for airfare to be arranged."

"One of Catawba County's biggest cases in recent years may come to a close
Thursday, and law enforcement is tightening security. Elisa Baker, 43, is charged
with second-degree murder in the death of her 10-year-old stepdaughter, as well
as obstruction of justice, bigamy and six other unrelated felonies. Her court hearing
will begin at 9:30 a.m. today, and it is expected she will plead guilty in a plea
arrangement worked out with the district attorney’s office."

2011 - September - GUILTY PLEA & SENTENCING

"I anguished over the decision to forgo first-degree murder charges, but
 without clear evidence showing how Zahra died, I feared Baker might
go free if I didn’t cut a deal."
 

Elissa Baker plead guilty to 2nd Degree Murder, Obstruction of Justice & other charges.

Law Enforcement testimony: Elissa Baker had physically abused Zahra at least
three times prior to her murder. Elissa Baker led police to 3 sites to recover Zahra's
remains. Her skull and other body parts are still missing.


SENTENCING

"This is the case that will haunt this community until the time I take to a rocking
chair and leave this place." 

 Elissa Baker did not address the court.

The family had pleaded with Elisa Baker for the whereabouts of Zahra's skull to no avail. 

ZAHRA'S SKULL FOUND 

A skull found in April 2012 belongs to Zahra Baker,The State Bureau of Investigation's crime lab, state Medical Examiner’s Office and Marshall University's forensic science center in Huntington, W.Va., were able compare a DNA profile used during the prosecution of Zahra's murder trial to the skull found in Caldwell County to confirm the findings.The examination of the skull did not provide any further details about how Zahra was murdered, police said. SEE MORE AT LINK

ELISA BAKER KILLER OF ZAHRA BAKER RECEIVES 10 MORE YEARS FOR DRUGS ON TOP OF 18 YEAR MURDER SENTENCE

HICKORY RECORD

March 4, 2013 STATESVILLE NC – Elisa Baker was sentenced Monday to 10 years in federal prison for drug charges. That sentence will be added to the state sentence of 18 years she received for second degree conviction in the death of her daughter Zahra Baker.“Given the two years she’s served, Baker will be in prison for the next 26 years,” said Jay Gaither, District Attorney for Prosecutorial District 25. She will be 70 years old when she completes both sentences.She was indicted on seven drug charges on May 18, 2011: three counts of distribute and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, three counts of using and maintaining a residence to distributea controlled substance and one count of conspiracy to distribute  and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. She was facing a maximum of $4.75 million in fines and 140 years in jail for the federal charges.
