Why did Noor die? Because of her father's anger. For enjoying the very freedoms her father moved his family here to enjoy...correction, for him to enjoy, and his family to continue to adhere to his version of traditional Iraqi values.
Mid-1990's - Faleh Hassan Almaleki moves his family from Iraq to the Glendale, Arizona area.

"Westernized" and not living according to "his" traditional Iraqi values.

UPDATE: 5 November 2009 - Almaleki has been placed on suicide watch.
I doubt it's because of Noor's death, but because he's been jailed, and because of the charges.
I live very very close to where this horror occurred, and the justifiable outrage in our community is THICK. This monster will forever be looking over his shoulder and wondering when the "westernized" people will get the justice that Noor so justly deserves. This is disgraceful.
Unfortunately, for the many girls like Noor, out there with a father, brother, uncle, or indeed an entire family of the mindset that Noor's father exhibits, the fact that Almaleki will receive justice in our legal system won't stop the others from continuing to force their daughters, nieces, into unwanted marriages, or to kill them for perceived "honor" slights.
